Hi,my name is Larry and I have been looking for a forum devoted to Ferns for some time and nearly gave up-apart from a discussion forum on Gardenweb there is nothing out there, which is strange because Ferns are attractive plants with a very interesting life cycle.

I only have a few ferns at the moment, all indoor plants(A Pteris in the bathroom and a sickly Nephrolepis that is now in recovery.)
I hope to get some outdoor ferns as there are parts of my garden that get little sunshine and not a lot else would grow there. I did have a Painted Fern last year that I planted in the front garden, but the soil there is very poor and it died.

I do have two young ferns that appeared as if from nowhere in with a potted palm-I think they are Dryopteris.(spores must have blown in thriough the klitchen window or were dormant in the compost?).I hope so as they can go in the garden soon.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you all and sharing photos of people's Ferns.

Regards
Larry

Hallo Larry,
Welcome to the forum, I'm a Belgian fern collector. You say that there are no other fern groeps on the internet, have you looked at the Britsh Pteridological Society http://www.nhm.ac.uk/hosted_sites/bps/ and than you have the amerikan fern society with their own forum http://amerfernsoc.org/ and their are also a few austrailian ones, http://home.vicnet.net.au/~fernsvic/index.html, http://users.chariot.net.au/~saufern/.
Anyway hope you enjoy this webside to,their are a lot of people who have some very good experiance on ferns.
have a nice day,
Danny :D

Hi Larry,
welcome!

You should write Athyriana a PM she's working in a fernery in germany, but seems still busy.

Also look here for societies dedicated to ferns: http://www.baumfarn.at/treefern/viewforum.php?f=23

This yahoo group is also recommended: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/treefern/
Allthough it's primary about treeferns I remember that several people knew some nurseries in England.

If you're interested in gardening, look at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/treefern/
Here's their gallery: http://www.pbase.com/theukoasis

greetings
Peter
(But don't forget to come back occasionaly!!!:))
