This is a fern whuch turned up one day in with my Palm in the kitchen. I thought it was a indoor fern but now I am sure it is a Dryopteris-you can see it next to my name in miniature.

Here are some bigger photos.

There are 2 plants like this, but the second one seems to have more crinkled leaves, like it is a seperate species, but I do not know.

Thanks for looking,

Hallo Larry,
I think you've got a common male fern here Dryopteris filix-mas but it is always hard to tell when they're young.
have a nice day,
Danny

Thanks Danny.
It funny but Ive been looking at fern pics most of the day and filix-mas was one species that I rejected from the start. Two that looked similar to mine were D. aemula or D.carthusiana.

Like I say, it's difficult to say. You would get a better picture when the sori come on to the leave.

Dryopteris carthusiana and Dr. dilatata are only a little bit different. First one has a rhizome that is semierect and Dr. dilatata are allways erect. Fronds of Dr. dilatata are mostly dark-green and Dr. carthusiana pale-green and dull.

Is it possible to take a photo from the whole leaf? It is easier to identify. Sori of both lare nearly the same.

regards
Athyriana
