 Post subject: storing Amorphophallus konjac in the winter.

Hi there.



I brought four A.Konjac from a nursery in Norfork call Urban Jungle. thay are growing well. Would like to know the best way to overwinter then in the uk. Do i store them in the pot wive dry compost or in a tray of moist sand at room temp.
eny help would be good thank.

Hi Henrik,

hope the answer doesn't reach you too late......

konjac should be stored dry in a cellar or even at room temperature UNPOTTED, e.g. without any soil, substrate or compost.
Even if you store it in a pot with presumably dry compost, the tuber might rot.

Pot the tuber not before you see the bud sprouting; you might even wait untill you see roots growing at the bottom of the new leaf bud.

Thank you for your massage. I did think it was safer to store them dry at room temperature. I have have four Amorphophallus konjac sitting in my room. Waiting to be planted in spring.

I do have pink buds showing on my tubers. But the buds are not growing yet. I think I wait till I see roots growing before I plant them.

when tubers are flowering sizes? (My tuber are not yet.) But when thay do should the tuber's be planted way before it flower so it will not full over :?:

I have not had a flowering size konjac, but I guess it should have 2 kg or more.....
Do not pot it; it will flower unpotted...
